saturday, 26th of july - 107 km
that's it! i'm done with google maps! scared me to death twice today and sent me to places i really never wanted to go to.
the scheils are hard working farmers, they start their work early every day, and so did i. the weather wasn't too bad, but no sun ☀ out. i followed the sat nav and ended up in the midst of an endless forest. when i looked at the screen of the sat nav, there was a blue dot, that was me, a blue line, the track and the rest was green without any lines. and the path was getting more and more sandy, impossible for a bike. and it went on for several kilometers. it felt extremely lonely and pretty spooky in the forest.
well, it led me back to a street, though i don't think that could have been the best way to get there.
then came lindow, the nicest waiter with the biggest breakfast (my second, already had one with the scheils). the sun came out - i was at piece with the world!
but not for long..... the sat nav challenged me again. this time the road wasn't sandy but turned out to be laid down by the romans. they didn't ride bikes! and that went on on for 7 km. then it just ended with a sign: trespassing prohibited, danger of death, blablabla....
backtrack 7 km cobble stone road! and the military area to my left and to my right (as i now understood). thanks google!
susanne had asked me what i would miss most, if i quit the project, and i said acquaintances. but there is another fabulous thing about riding a bike through the summer - smells! i love the many different and wonderful fragrances even the most intimidating wood provides.
the rest of the day i navigated by asking, which worked well, and a biker gave me good advice for a new navigation system, i downloaded it in the evening.
but the day ended frustrating; i reached the very nice town of röbel/müritz (which is a system of lakes), i didn't find a place to stay and had to invest quite a bit of the emergency/ferry money - the upside: a nice shower and a comfortable bed.
good night!
