london
do you know that little (or sometimes big) sadness, when something, that took all your passion for a while, is over? that's what i felt in the last few days. then the questions arises, what was it good for, what have i achieved?
the answer was - nothing. i just had to do two things - riding the bike and trusting people.
biking was sometimes hard, but had to be done. trusting was harder, because i am not used to do that to such an extent. so the real achievement came from my supporters! and the sponsors! the big thing to me was, that there were so many people that helped me, doing this somehow crazy thing, because they think that helping others is worth while. and that very many of them, and others out there, i'm sure, agree with my idea. and that i neede to proof and that made the journey and the fundraising possible.
my part of the project is almost done now, only a little bit of trusting left. but the journey will not end here in london.
when the whole thing started i realised after a few days, that i had to turn down my goal to ride to london and back. otherwise i would have quit immediately. so i made it 'reach london' in my head. then i wanted to get myself a flight back home . that would have been fine.
but because of the generosity of supporters i can stay in london now, and then fly back, still without any of my own money. so the project started and will end in vienna!
to all of you who are interested in the distances, here are the numbers:
the whole journey will be 4112 km in the end.
the distance i biked to london was 2877 km, of which 2515 km on bike, 166 km by ferry, 110 km by train and 86 km by car.
the distance back to vienna is 1235 km.
personally, i think that travelling the whole distance was made possible by the support of the people i met on my way. but regarding the fundraising, i leave it to the sponspors to decide, if they count the entire journey or only the stretch to london. in the name of the greek people i hope you'll see it the same way i do.
one last thing...... i've got the feeling that the whole experience turned into something pretty serious. people who know me might agree that i'm not that way inclined by nature.
i hope the diary was interesting and entertaining nevertheless, and that you enjoyed reading it.
in the next few days i might feel free to continue, not all of it might be that hard and heavy.
