tuesday, 29th of july - 76 km by bike, 25 km on a ferry, 17 km by car (1647 km all in all)
what a night at the the 'shelter'!
or should i say nightmare? i was pretty tired, so i laid down under the shelter straight away. the sun had set - a long nordic dusk. and as i tried to sleep, insects went on their mission. every ten seconds above my ear: sssuuuummmm. easy to get, because i could hear where they where - but there was no way of sleeping. as it got darker, it got a little bit better.
two hours later dawn started, insects on a mission again... i tried to get some more sleep, but it was useless! the night was over at half past four in the morning.
so, change of plans. i returned the isomat and went on my journey. i had about 70 km to get to the next ferry ahead of me. fortunately, i had a lot of bread and some dextrose (from carla, thank heavens), because there was no chance to get a bite to eat.
provisions were running low...not much water left, and, even worse, the batterie of my mobile was fading, so i couldn't track my way, and the sat nav was running low.
luckily, i just made it to the ferry to langeland around half past eight a.m., i had the money to get on, but no energy to do anything else (except for stealing a cup of coffee on the ferry , but that really wasn't my fault!) .
i called krischi, a very good friend, who lives on langeland, to pick me up by car from the harbour, he promised to do that.
when the ferry arrived at the other side, i went down a short street to a nice little beach, where i collapsed and waited for my friend. despite my disastrous morning, this was the first time my project felt a little like a holiday, too. the sun, the beach, just lying on the grass waiting for something good to come!
later, after we arrived at anette's and krischi's place (an unbelievabley nice danish farmhouse), i felt like i was betraying all my supporters by just relaxing - but i really need to take a rest to enable me to go on later. and until then, there will be enough work to do here, starting with getting a watertank filled. i have to earn my break.
