tuesday, 22nd of july - 95 km (1044 km so far)

sometimes things turn out fine - for instance that i never took a painkiller before, in my life (except for aspro, does that count?). after taking one of the tablets, the doctor had given me, at half past one i slept like a baby. i got up late then, the reverend laughed at me (and provided a big breakfast).

i wanted to reach dame, less than 100 km south of berlin, to get there the following day. so i had to go fast.

somehow that didn't really work, too many little roadbikes and funny old people to talk to and other distractions.

so i reached riesa, where i had to cross the elbe, around noon, and i was hungry. i strolled through the inner city, but not a bite in sight. specially asian people always answer with  'we have to work for our living too!'.

then at the outskirts of riesa, a bakery. for some reason waitresses in bakeries are mostly kind and softhearted. so was this one. maybe because i am from vienna, she offered a schnitzelsemmel, which i gladly took.

that might keep me going until the evening, i thought, and tried to speed up more than before noon - the wind was working against me. nevertheless i got to bad liebenwerda. and now something entirely new occurred to me. i wasn't hungry, but i just wanted iced coffee! for the first time on this journey i didn't ask for something i needed, but for something i craved. at a bakery, as you can imagine, and the waitress didn't hesitate to fulfill my wish. i was happy.

unfortunately the rest of the day turned out to be exhausting, and a piece of bread would have helped more. but it was worth while.

after some detours (and a fabulous water refill of all my bottles at the house of a 90 year old lady) i checked in the first restaurant that came in sight. they again provided first aid, and the best way to lebusa (as i had given up to try to reach dame, the next funniest name, through 'die hölle', as they said.

well, it wasn't hell at all. i found a very nice lady, working in the garden, she gave something to eat, recommended somebody i could ask for a place to stay, all together we had a great evening. and more interesting details about ddr.

good night for now.
